What is a FAM trip?
FAM is short for “Familiarization” which is travel offered to bona fide golf travel sales professionals as a courtesy or at a reduced rate so that they can inspect and gain product knowledge of the golf resorts, hotels, golf courses, cruise lines, airlines, transfer companies, restaurants, spa’s and other elements of the ‘golf vacation packages’ that they sell.
This is one of the many “perks” available to GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassador’s on an ongoing basis. FAM’s have a long standing tradition in the Travel Industry. Some FAM’s have restrictions, and some are extremely limited. In some cases, the GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassador will be allowed to bring a traveling companion at an additional cost. What better way to learn how to sell a golf vacation package and itinerary than by experiencing it yourself?

In addition to scheduled GolfAhoy golf travel FAM trips, GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassadors can subscribe to receive a free trial for 15 days to “FAM News” with over 7,000 FAM trips listed annually. FAM News is “The Travel Industry’s Most Comprehensive Source of FAM’s & Travel Agent Reduced Rate Travel-the One Source”. A 12 month subscription to FAM News is $34.95, less than $1.50 per issue for access to the latest worldwide FAM’s.

FAM Application Form.
FAM Trip Application Forms can be downloaded at the GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassador Intranet web site. Fill out the respective FAM Application form completely and return to the GolfAhoy Corporate Office.
Payment.
If your selected FAM Trip is a complimentary sponsored event for GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassadors there is no charge/cost to you. If r/t airfare is not included in the FAM you are responsible for making your own airline reservations.
Deviations.
All FAM participants are required to travel with the FAM group, no extensions or deviations from the official FAM itinerary are generally permitted. Passport/Travel Insurance/Visas. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after date of departure of the FAM. Holders of all passports from all countries must ensure that all entry requirements for all countries to be visited during a FAM, including appropriate Visa’s, are met or airline and ship boarding will be denied. Arrange your own travel insurance as it will not be covered in the FAM.
Spending Money.
FAM participants are responsible for any meals not covered in the FAM itinerary. Money will be required for any optional activities like snacks and souvenirs, local tips, gratuities and porterage.
Pre-Departure Memo/Tickets.
At least one week prior to your FAM departure you will receive your e-ticket (if applicable), a final FAM itinerary, the rooming list or group passenger manifest, FAM destination background information and a suggested clothing/packing list.
Participants on a FAM Trip are expected to bring along sufficient business cards (25-50), writing pad or note book and writing utensils, and a camera.
Mandatory required id proof for application/participation in all FAM’s.
- GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassador business card.
- CLIA agent photo ID card. (Cruise Lines International Association)
- IAGTO agent ID card. (International Association of Golf Tour Operators)
- Authorization to participate in FAM in writing on GolfAhoy or Caribbean Cruise Lines (Canada) Ltd. letterhead stationery signed by GolfAhoy and/or CCL Managing Director.
FREE Golf Travel Tour Conductor Tickets. T/C Ticket.
GolfAhoy Golf Travel Ambassadors are awarded one free T/C Ticket for every eight paying couples on a group golf travel tour. The Ambassador earns sales commission on the eight couple group. T/C Tickets are non-commissionable. For example, Ambassador books eight double occupancy passengers on the “GolfAhoy VIP Deluxe 10 Day Southern Caribbean Golf & Spa Cruise” itinerary/package at $5,495 per person.
$5,495 per person x two = $10,990 per couple.
$10,990 per couple x eight couples = $87,920
Ambassador sales commission at 17% = $14,946.40 - Less 3% GolfAhoy Royalty. Ambassador may use the FREE T/C Ticket earned to accompany the group or take the value of the earned T/C Ticket, in this example $5,495, as a cash add-on to the earned sales commission, $14,960.40 + $5,495 = $20,441.40.

Using the above example, if an Ambassador wanted to earn two FREE T/C Tickets, he or she would simply double the group size from eight couples to sixteen couples.
